UPDATE: Our advocacy efforts to stop deep budget cuts for arts and culture at the City have been heard! Thanks to everyone’s united voice, Mayor Kevin Faulconer has proposed an FY19 budget for arts and culture with only a 2% cut to the existing $14.6 million budget.  This is a “fair share cut” in line with other city departments – far below the possible 30%+ cut – and one that San Diego Junior Theatre plans to support going forward through budget hearings. Thanks to everyone who made their voice heard via a postcard, email, post or hashtag!

Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon Kids Sensory-Friendly Performance

Sensory Friendly Photo
San Diego Junior Theatre is committed to increasing access and inclusion for our community’s children and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other sensory, social, and cognitive disabilities.
This season, San Diego Junior Theatre will offer a sensory-friendly performance of the Magic Tree House: Pirates Past Noon KIDS on January 13!
In a sensory-friendly performance, adjustments are made to the production to reduce any jarring sounds or lighting.  The houselights remain on and the lobby doors remain open. By softening the sensory journey, we create a safe atmosphere where young people with ASD are free to experience the show in their own unique way.
Audience members are permitted to talk openly, move throughout the house, or take a break in our quiet room.  Volunteers from the Autism Society are on-site for extra support and to distribute “fidgets” to any child who becomes anxious during the performance.
Tickets for this performance are not available online. Please call the box office at 619-239-8355 to reserve your tickets. Please make every effort to reserve early.

November 28 is #GivingTuesday

Giving Tuesday 2017

Dear Junior Theatre Friends:
Giving Tuesday is November 28!
For 70 years, San Diego Junior Theatre’s mission has been brought to life by telling great stories onstage, and creating amazing personal success stories off-stage.
For every story that has inspired our audiences, we have thousands of stories of students and families that have been transformed by the Junior Theatre experience.
You may have your own story. What’s your “Once Upon a Time?”
In the spirit of #GivingTuesday, please consider what Junior Theatre has meant to you, and make a contribution to the 70th Anniversary Annual Fund to support one of San Diego’s most vital, cultural, and educational resources.
The Annual Fund keeps our doors open and lights on, but it also gives us space to innovate and take artistic risks. Now is the time to rise up and keep Junior Theatre alive and thriving. Your donation will ensure that Junior Theatre is the place where dreams are realized in a safe and nurturing community where life-long friendships are born.
Historically, the Annual Fund has raised about $35,000 each year. In honor of the 70th Anniversary, we have set a goal to double that amount to $70,000! Please consider doubling your donation this year, or add an extra $7.00, $70.00 or even $700.00.
San Diego Junior Theatre is not only one of the oldest theatre companies in San Diego, but we are currently the oldest youth theatre in the nation! Your gift is an investment in our next 70 years.
The stories we have yet to inspire, onstage and off, are in your hands.
Yours very truly,
James Saba
Executive Director
WHEN:
Each year #GivingTuesday is held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the big shopping events, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire a culture of philanthropy, transforming how people think and talk about and participate in the giving season.
